Cameron Brate caught 3-of-3 targets for 26 yards in the Bucs' Super Bowl LV victory over the Chiefs.

07 February 2021

Brate caught at least three passes in all four of the Bucs' playoff games. Buried behind Rob Gronkowski and O.J. Howard on the depth chart to begin the season, Brate saw his involvement tick upward after Howard blew out his Achilles? tendon in Week 4. He then muddled along in the 2-4 catch range before surprisingly re-emerging as the Bucs? primary pass-catching tight end during the postseason, catching 11 passes in three games before Gronk finally moved back ahead of him this evening. Although a productive pure pass catcher, Brate?s $6.25 million 2021 salary will need to be adjusted even if Gronk fails to re-sign. Brate can be released with a $0 cap hit. Soon to be 30, Brate is simply too much of a luxury at that price in a year where the salary cap is expected to fall.
